How To Clear A Clogged Sewer

If you own a home there are very high chances of experiencing the problem of clogged sewer. It is important to learn how to fix the problem on your own because sometimes it is not that serious, this will save you from having to call a plumber. Before fixing the problem you have to be sure that you know what you are doing as you may cause more damage if you have no idea of how to fix it.

The first tip when draining a clogged sewer is to remove the stopper and clear then dirt around the pipe used to drain. This is mainly for a clogged bath tub. Slow drainage of water in a clogged bath tub is usually caused by the dirt such as hair which might settle around the stopper. After removing the stopper ensure you remove all the dirt around and make sure the tub drains before putting back everything together.

Another tip is to use a plunger. A plunger is used to remove blockages from a toilet or a sink by suction. There will be slow drainage of water in case the sinks get clogged. To ensure that the water flow goes back to normal one can use a plunger. Press the plunger hard into the drain, this creates a vacuum that will suck the materials in the drain. In case the plunger does not work, one can remove the particles causing blockage by removing the stopper and opening up the piping underneath the sink.

It is also advisable to use a clean out. A clean out is a pipe with a plug that can be unscrewed to access your sewer pipe. Most people probably do not know if their sewer is connected to a clean out. You can always find out where the clean out is by walking around the house as they are usually close to the house. When you remove the clean out plug, the waste water will flow out though the clean out keeping your house from being flooded.

If the you are unable to correct the problem then probably it is time to call a plumber or contact a company that specialize in drain cleaning. You can still call a plumber even after using the clean out as the clean out will drain the waste water into your yard which is just a temporary solution. So as not to leave the waste water flowing into your yard it is advisable to call a plumber to fix the problem in the drainage system.
