When it comes to perfume or aftershave you want to know that you are going to smell great all day and hopefully not break the bank in the process.
Something that some may not know is that perfumes and aftershaves have different notes and different stages of aroma once they are applied to the skin. We’ll refer to this as the opening, the body and the dry down. When sampling a fragrance, apply a little on your skin and take note of the Opening. Often this is a citrus smell that is quite striking but pay close attention to how it transitions to the Body. If you’re good at this you should be able to detect multiple layers of musk, wood, fruits and berries depending on which fragrance you choose. The dry down is arguably the most important part because this is what you’ll experience for the rest of the time that you have the scent with you. These changes can be subtle but one good test to see if a perfume is good quality is to see how long after application that the scent is still noticeable.
If you really want to get deep into the art of fragrance quality a good place to start would be to learn which fragrances are best suited for different seasons/weather/climates. There are some that are good all-rounders but often you’ll find that an aftershave or perfume that is great in the winter, simply won’t give the same experience in the warmer summer weather.
A safe way to ensure that you are buying the right product is to stick with the well known brands that we have all come to love and trust. These experts in their field have countless thousands of hours under their belt spent honing and perfecting their fragrances.
Like we said above the tricky part can be deciding on the cheaper or more expensive products. Unfortunately that isn’t a decision that anyone can make for you. We all have different budgets and we all want different things.
